Remake

« The Eye » est un remake réalisé par deux français, Xavier Palud et David Moreau, d’un film d’épouvante hongkongais réalisé en 2002 par Danny et Oxide Pang.

L’intrigue principale du film repose sur un phénomène scientifique réel intitulé « mémoire cellulaire ». Il semblerait ainsi que, pour des raisons que l’on ignore encore, certaines personnes ayant subi des greffes d’organe présentent parfois des comportements similaires à ceux des individus donneurs. 1

She’s playing music with her eyes closed, of course… At the center of The Eye is the concept of cellular memory, the theory that memory can be found imprinted on the cellular level. This would lead transplant recipients to possibly have memories or cravings that originated with the donor. 2

Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) is an accomplished concert violinist who has been blind since a childhood tragedy. Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, and her sight is restored. But Sydney’s happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney’s mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney’s family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see. It kind of was. Dark Angel was quite challenging because I had to carry that and sort of do everything. Since then it has been… intense. Having to play violin, play someone who is blind and becomes sighted… yeah it was quite challenging and definitely why I wanted to do it. I love horror movies and have wanted to do one for a while. I have read many over the years, and, to me, this one is – with the psychological thriller aspect -intelligent and complex. 3
